Consisting of four main towns
set in the heart of the Tees Valley you will find the Borough of
Stockton-on-Tees.
In the surrounding rural
countryside, there are also many smaller but delightful villages.
These main town's are
Stockton, Yarm, Billingham and Thornaby, along with the growing township of Ingleby Barwick.
Yarm is one of the Borough's
smallest towns, where the old and new stand proudly together, but what it
lacks in size it more than makes up for in charm and tradition.
Historic and beautiful, Yarm-on-Tees nestles in a loop of the River. It became a thriving town in
its own right during the Georgian period and tradition is still at the heart
of the town to this day.
Yarm provides a varied choice
of chic shops, exclusive restaurants and a wide range of public houses with
beer gardens. Superb bistro's, cafes‚ and tearooms, vibrant nightlife and
all round olde worlde charm, cannot fail to impress.
Billingham is said to be one
of the oldest settlements in the Tees Valley. Now a bustling and thriving
community, its modern image belies its ancient origins.
Stockton town centre hosts
one of the region's largest outdoor markets every Wednesday and Saturday.
Within minutes of Stockton's
bustling centre are many delightful, enchanting villages - a few of which
include, Hartburn, Egglescliffe and Eaglescliffe, Carlton, Redmarshall, Hilton, Long Newton and Wolviston.
Popular with motorists on two
or four wheels, and walkers alike the region has a wealth of scenic country
roads, excellent footpaths, cycle routes, public houses and restaurants,
renowned for quality and mouth watering dishes to suit any taste.
Stockton-on-Tees is home to a
diverse selection of tourist attractions. The River Tees, being the main
focal point of the Borough's tourism, has been developed to provide an
excellent environment for water based activities.
Preston Hall Museum, a
Victorian manor house set in 110 acres of parkland, portrays what life was
like in years gone by.
Much of the Borough of
Stockton falls within the wider
Tees Forest, giving access to a number of
countryside sites.
