The historic medieval market town of Guisborough has something for all. Set within the
gateway to the North Yorkshire
Moors, this tranquil township has a host of specialist
shops, eating establishments and places of interest for you to enjoy.
Holding a prominent position on Westgate, you will find the historic building of Sunnyfield House which is open to the public for light refreshment on market days.
Situated behind Sunnyfield House on Westgate Road you will find Guisborough Museum which houses some of the
artifacts of years gone by. Also situated on Westgate, a specialist market
is held every second Saturday of the month. Regular markets take place each
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Guisborough also spelt as
Gisborough was
once the capital of Cleveland and its broad cobbled
street is the focus of the town's shops, pubs and eating places. Guisborough
is also an ideal base to tour the surrounding coast and countryside of North
Yorkshire and Tees Valley.
The
nearby Guisborough Forest
& Walkway Visitor Centre is a useful stopping off point
before venturing off into the forest.
Standing
defiantly amongst the trees and roofs of this delightful market town you
will see the striking outline of the 12th Century Guisborough Priory.
Seperated from the town by a high wall, this Priory's grounds are a secret
garden and perfect for picnics.
Whether
it's shopping, relaxation, walking, cycling, action or adventure,
Guisborough is a perfect place to start.
Nearby
places include the prominent landmark of Roseberry Topping and Great Ayton,
the boyhood home of Captain
James Cook.
